Reaction Paper 2
Reaction Paper 2
I learned a lot from when Dante Crisafulli came to visit during one of the seminar classes.
The first thing that stuck to me, while it may be a minor thing, is that it was cool to see that Dante was a “real” person. Obviously you have to be professional when you're working with bigger companies, but to see that someone who was laid back and who I shared some qualities with get to where he is now was a small reassurance. The two main points I took from his visit though, were about videography and the beginnings of his photo/video career. I’ve already started to learn that with music photography, many photographers do video work too, and lots of bands expect or want it. His point on how video work is only going to increase as a needed skill has kind of pushed me into trying to make videography something I can work with. I’ve already started to seek out equipment like mics and external lights that I could use to have higher quality videos. Dante’s story on how before being in the art world he felt lost, miserable, and unsatisfied really got through to me. I really didn’t have any one thing that I was passionate towards until photography, and he was the same way. It also showed that you don’t have to follow any type of “normal” path to get started in doing something you life. He said how he was at a job he hated for a while, and now he does a number of high quality work for a number of companies and organizations. Between starting out in video work, and empathizing with his personal life story, hearing Dante speak was a huge positive experience, and I hope to find myself going along a similar path as him in my future.
